Raquel Ríos, Ph.D.

Mindfulness & Learning Specialist

Raquel offers mindfulness based interventions and learning strategies to enhance well-being, balance and performance in work and life. Her holistic approach aims at reducing stress and anxiety, increasing focus and attention, and addressing barriers in learning, healing and performance. She integrates research in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), social-emotional learning, intercultural competence, and differentiated instruction to respond to a wide range of learning modalities. She services English and Spanish speaking clients.

Raquel holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, K-12 from Touro University International, a Masters of Science in Elementary Education from Lehman College, The City University of New York and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from New York University. She completed her MBSR training with Mindful Leader and is a certified Mindfulness Instructor from Círculo de Estudios para la Paz, Valencia, Spain. She has been a mindfulness meditation practitioner for more than ten years and incorporates many of the Buddhist and Zen traditions in her work and practice. Other certifications include: Leadership & Management of Humanitarian Action, Humanitarian Policy & Conflict Research Program from Fordham University, Human Subjects Research for Social & Behavioral Faculty, CITI, and Secondary Spanish Teaching Certificate, New York State.

Prior to launching her own practice, Raquel worked as a teacher, instructional designer and coach, professional development specialist and trainer. She has presented at several conferences and has worked with organizations and teams nationally in the United States, Puerto Rico, Spain and United Arab Emirates on topics including change & transformation, coaching & mentoring, student centered instruction, language learning & literacy and culturally relevant pedagogy.

She is the author of several articles and two books in education: Teacher Agency for Equity: A Framework for Conscientious Engagement and Mindful Practice for Social Justice: A Guide for Professional Learning Communities.

In her free time, Raquel writes, paints and jogs. She is the mother of two incredible young adults. She divides her time between Spain and the US.
